Agnaldo Farias

Art critic and curator, born in 1955 in Itajubá, Brazil. He has been working with art projects for Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo. He was chief curator of the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (1998 - 2000), and director of temporary exhibitions of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo (1990 - 1993). He holds a Master’s degree in Social History, University of Campinas – UNICAMP, and a doctor’s degree from Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo (School of Architecture and Urbanism), University of São Paulo, where he lectures. He is an art critic and author of essays published in Brazil and abroad. The exhibitions he has curated include: Bienal Brasil Século XX, Fundação Bienal de São Paulo, 1994 Brazilian Representations at the 1st. Biennial of Johannesburg and the 46st Biennial of Venice (with Nelson Aguilar), 1995 23th Bienal Internacional de São Paulo (with Nelson Aguilar), 1996 25th Bienal Internacional de São Paulo (Brazilian Representation), 2002 Faxinal das Artes (Residence Program at Faxinal do Céu), 2002 Ordenação e Vertigem, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, São Paulo, 2003 Nelson Leirner 1994+10, Museu Oscar Niemeyer, Curitiba and Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo, 2004
