Cermelang, Gemilang, Terbilang. 2007 "Cermelang, Gemilang, Terbilang" is Malaysia's National Day slogan. On the first level, the work is a montage of various Malaysian symbols of modernisation, arranged in the shape of a Pohon Beringin ("tree of life"). This is perforated with holes and slits, so that the light passing through them projects on the wall and floor behind the figur of one of the Demon King Rawana, the two-headed Kelantan version of a traditional character from Wayang Kulit (shadow puppet theatre). © Photos: Haupt & Binder |
