Compiled from the collection of the Fondation Arabe pour l'Image. This foundation created in 1996 in Beirut by Zaatari, Raad, and other artists and photographers, is the only functioning public photographic archive in the Middle East. The artists on their installation: "we are presenting works from a specific cultural and geographic context; these stimulate questions concerning portrait photography not only in the Arab world, but also portrait, photography, and culture in general."
