Malay Woodcarving in a Contemporary Context

Carved by Nik Rashiddin in kenaung wood.
Kelantan, late 20th c.
16,5 x 15,25 x 5 cm

Keris = or: kris; Malayan and Indonesian knife

Tajong = Keris style from Kelantan and Pattani. Originated from representations of the Hindu deity Siva. The elongated "nose" is reminiscent of Wayang Kulit puppets.
