SM/Landscape, 2004
In his video project Darmawan translates and reproduces the effect of both mental and physical 'drifting.' The piece consists of two simultaneous and adjacent video streams; the interior of a grocery store and a sun drenched landscape of undulating hills and valleys. However, Darmawan’s focus is not on these seemingly different 'scapes,' but rather on the camera’s movement through them. The camera eye/I cuts a seamless and monotonous path through both; (re)producing the tension between our selective attention to detail and our experience of the abstract flow of time as we mender through our daily lives. © Photos: Whitney Tassie.
