Becoming Istanbul

The German Architecture Museum Frankfurt in collaboration with Garanti Gallery (Istanbul) present the exhibition "Becoming Istanbul" from 6 September to 9 November 2008.

Central to the exhibition is an interactive database which highlights from different perspectives many different aspects of the city on the Bosporus and its development at the intersection between East and West. The interactive presentation, which can be navigated by the viewers, brings together a wealth of contributions by numerous photographers, artists, architects, writers, illustrators and researchers who have worked in and about Istanbul.

The exhibition, which is presented in the framework of the 2008 Frankfurt Book Fair, at which Turkey is the guest of honor, is curated by Pelin Derviş (director of Garanti Galeri, Istanbul), together with the architects and architecture historians Bülent Tanju and Uğur Tanyeli.

An encyclopedic catalogue dedicated to the urban transformation in Istanbul in the last one and a half centuries accompanies the exhibition.
