United Arab Emirates in Venice 2009
Two presentations at the 53rd Venice Biennale

For the first time and at once with two presentations, the United Arab Emirates will be at the Venice Biennale in 2009:

National Pavilion

The UAE Pavilion at the Venice Biennial is initiated and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, and is sponsored by the Emirates Foundation and the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (DCAA).

Curator is Tirdad Zolghadr, freelance curator, critic, and filmmaker with Iranian background. In 2005, he was co-curator of the 7th Sharjah Biennial.

ADACH Platform for Venice

The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture & Heritage - ADACH Platform for Venice, which will be developed under the artistic direction of world renowned art historian and curator Catherine David, will be designed as meeting point of artistic productions and live encounters, and as a survey the contemporary visual arts and culture from the perspective of Abu Dhabi/UAE and beyond.

Artistic director of this presentation is Catherine David. The Paris-based art historian and curator was, among other positions, Artistic Director of documenta X in Kassel, Germany, 1997.
